"8" The Gay Marriage Play - Wed, Feb 13 only

Supreme Court Gay Marriage Case Comes to Madison for One Night Only
This is a FREE performance of Gay Marriage Play based on Prop 8 testimonies

OUT!Cast Theatre, Mercury Players Theatre and the New Harvest Foundation present the Madison premiere of 8: The Gay Marriage Play for a one-night staged reading February 13, 2013 at 8 pm at the Bartell Theatre, 113 E Mifflin Street, just off the Square. The event is free to the public and will be held in the larger Drury space in the Bartell.

The play, by Oscar Winning Screenwriter Dustin Lance Black ("Milk"), is based on the closed-to-the-public testimonies of the California Prop 8 case which is now headed to the Supreme Court in March of this year. The play is being performed for free in cities all over the US in hopes of raising awareness of the legal challenge over Gay Marriage that’s heading to the Supreme Court. The February 13th performance is the Wisconsin premiere.

The one-night staged reading includes a cast of over 25 local Madison community theatre performers ranging in age from 15 to 75 as well as local media personalities Mark Koehn and Susan Siman from Madison’s WISC-TV.

The show is being produced by Steve Noll for OUT!Cast Theatre, borrowing the stage from Mercury Player’s Theatre for the night. The production is underwritten by a generous grant from New Harvest Foundation. Michael Bruno, Artistic Director of Whoop-de-Doo Theatre and WISC-TV’s "Bruno’s Bests" directs.

Because this is a free event, no tickets or reservations are being offered to the public. Doors open at 7:30 pm for the 8 pm 90-minute show. The Bartell Theatre is hosting a $20 Friends of the Bartell reception at 6:30pm and guests of this event will be offered VIP seats for the play as a benefit of supporting the Bartell Fundraising efforts.
