It is this Thurs., Mar. 19th, 5:45 PM for treats and the meeting starts at 6 PM. Meeting will be conducted at the Madison Labor Temple, 1602 S. Veterans for Peace and the Madison Area Peace Coalition will conduct a town meeting Thursday evening commemorating the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Iraqi civilians and the deaths of thousands of military members in Iraq. Organizer and Veterans for Peace member, Buzz Davis of Stoughton said, "After 6 years of the illegal war in Iraq, what do we have to show for it? Hundreds of thousands of dead, more wounded, millions of broken families in misery, a trillion dollars more national debt and no peace in sight. President Obama has ordered 17,000 more troops to Afghanistan as part of the Pentagon? planned 30,000 troop increase. Afghanistan is another bloody Vietnam. We say not one more death not one more dollar. Bring all the troops home now." The town meeting will be Thursday, March 19th , at the Madison Labor Temple, 1602 S. Park St. in Madison. The event is free and open to the public with coffee and treats at 5:45 PM and the meeting at 6 PM. The theme is "Obama: Wrong on Afghanistan, Wrong On Not Prosecuting Torture." Speakers include Davis "Are we being led like lambs to the slaughter?" and Dr. Adam Schesch "Afghanistan, the un-winnable war: counterinsurgency versus* *a hunt for al Qaeda." Progressive magazine editor Matthew Rothschild will speak on "torture organizers and why leaders must be prosecuted by Obama now." Bonnie Block, a leader of the United Nations Association of Dane County, will discuss Rep. Dennis Kucinich's 12 point plan for ending the Iraq occupation as a model for withdrawal from Afghanistan and Pakistan. The speakers will be followed by an audience discussion and call to action. The event is co-sponsored by the United Nations Assoc.-USA Dane County Chapter, American Federations of Teachers-WI, WI Network for Peace & Justice (WNPJ), WI Impeachment/Bring Our Troops Home Coalition, Democrats For Peace, Madison Pledge of Resistance, the World Can? Wait, Progressive Democrats of America-Walworth Co. and the Milwaukee Impeachment Group. The town meeting is free and will include a discussion period.
