EARTH DAY 2003 EVENTS IN MADISON

The following free Madison events will celebrate the 33rd Earth Day, April 22.


Monday April 21, 5-7 P.M.:
Open House for Madison's environmental organizations, including the Audubon Society, Sierra Club and Wisconsin Wetlands Association.
Fine refreshments will be served. 222 S. Hamilton St., in the Threlfall Bldg., intersection of S. Henry, S. Hamilton and W. Wilson Streets.

Tuesday April 22, 7-9 P.M.:
Talk on Horicon Marsh, by Bill Volkert, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources educator-naturalist.
This talk coincides with the 100th anniversary of the U.S. national wildlife refuge system. Meriter Hospital's Boltz Auditorium, 124 Brooks St.

Wednesday April 23, 5:30-7:00 P.M.:
Public Forum on Human Population: Global & Local Perspectives, sponsored by the Madison Audubon Society. Room 6191 Helen White Library, U.W. Madison. Refreshments will be served.
Speakers include:
* Dr. Roopina Sangha, OB-GYN from Delhi, India, who will discuss international family planning and population efforts.
* Lon Newman, Executive Director of Family Planning Health Services, Public Affairs Chair for Wisconsin Family Planning & Reproductive Health Association, and Population Committee Chair for WI River Country Group of the John Muir Chapter of the Sierra Club, who will bring a Wisconsin perspective to population issues.
* Dr. Stan Temple, Professor in Conservation and Environmental Studies, U.W. Madison Department of Wildlife Ecology, who will discuss the impact of human population on the environment abroad and here in Wisconsm.

Thursday April 24, 7 P.M.:
Talk on conservation efforts in Kenya and Uganda,
by Charlie Luthin, executive director of the Wisconsin Wetlands Association, and Rich Beilfus, African program director of the International Crane Foundation. Meriter Hospital's Boltz Auditorium, 124 Brooks St.

Monday April 28, 7 P.M.:
Talk with slides on A history of America's Wetlands, by award winning author and environmental historian Ann Veleisis.
