Town Hall Meeting Nov. 17, 2003

Dear Community Member:
Have you ever wondered about the impact of the global economy on the workers and businesses of Dane County? Do you have your own story to tell about its affect on your daily life or of others you know? Your questions and comments are needed so all of us can learn together what living in a global world truly means to each of us. This town hall meeting is open to all so please encourage others to come with you. Additional flyers can be obtained electronically by calling or e-mailing the League of Women Voters of Dane County office.

The evening’s discussion will be moderated by Neil Heinen, Editorial Director, WISC TV, winner of numerous professional and community awards including the 1995 Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. Humanitarian Award, 1996 Robert H. Wills Freedom of Information Award and the 1998 National Association for Community Leadership Distinguished Leadership Award.

The first topic for Audience Discussion is DANE COUNTY: A GLOBAL ECONOMY

Resources: David Newby, President, Wisconsin State AFL-CIO, a recognized national leader in the areas of political action; innovative workforce training and economic development; legislative initiatives on behalf of working families; and aggressive representation of the interests of all working people.

Peggy Lescrenier, Co-Founder and Vice President International, Gammex, Inc. an award-winning manufacturer of products and services for the medical industry; twice winner of the Wisconsin Export Achievement Award and honored with the Entrepreneur of the Year Award for Wisconsin; served on various governmental bodies.

The second is DANE COUNTY: A GLOBAL COMMUNITY

Resources: Lucia Nunez, Deputy Director, Department Workforce Development, oversees programs and services that enable individuals and employers to fully participate in Wisconsin’s economy; former Executive Director of Centro Hispano of Dane County; served on several community boards; and awards include the Wisconsin Women of Color Network Presidential Award for community leadership.

Jack Holzhueter, Retired Historian, State Historical Center, former editor, researcher and writer for the Wisconsin Historical Society and commentator about Wisconsin and Midwest history on Wisconsin Public Radio; frequent guest on WPR call-in shows and Wisconsin Public Television; contributor about Madison history to various publications.

Dane County is fortunate to be home to people with a variety of experience and backgrounds. We hope you will share your knowledge and insights about our global connectedness with other member of our community. November 17, 7:00 to 9:00 PM, Exhibition Hall, Alliant Energy Center (free parking).
