MASS PEACE PICKET
FEB 15TH - DOWNTOWN MADISON
Thousands to Line Streets Before Badger Game
Congregation Point is UW Library Mall at 10am (at the corner of State and Lake streets)

On Saturday, February 15th, from 10am to Noon, thousands of Madisonians will line downtown streets in a "Mass Peace Picket". The mass picket will take place in solidarity with peace demonstrations by millions in New York City and other communities across the globe that day, in what is expected to be one of the largest global days of protest in history. The Madison event will focus on bringing the peace message of “No war with Iraq” and “End the Sanctions” to streets corners and sidewalks throughout downtown Madison. It is timed to coincide with the UW Badger's nationally televised basketball game against Indiana.

The Madison Area Peace Coalition invites the public to arrive on the UW Library Mall between the hours of 10am and 10:30am, from which teams of picketers will be dispatched to various sidewalks in the downtown area. Participants are urged to wear Badger red, and to bring signs and noisemakers for the event. This will be a "passive picket", not an attempt to block traffic or sidewalks. Following the picket, participants are invited to warm up in the Pres House, 731 State Street, for hot drinks and music.

The "Mass Peace Picket" is one peace event among thousands scheduled globally for the weekend of February 15th, coordinated in the United States by "United for Peace & Justice", www.unitedforpeace.org.
